From the 'Only in Texas' files:

Report Says Principal Put Students in Cage to Fight

"A high school principal and his security staff shut feuding students in a steel cage to settle disputes with bare-knuckle fistfights, according to an internal report by the Dallas Independent School District.

....

Mr. Moten, who resigned from the district in 2008 while under investigation in connection with a grade-changing scandal, denies the cage-fight accusations.

....

Mr. Moten, 56, is a former Dallas police officer who once lied about being kidnapped and robbed at gunpoint to get out of work, for which he was placed on administrative leave."

As an interesting side note, yes the Texas pledge is recited every day in high schools.  A proposed amendment to the bill that updated the language to add 'one state under God' that would have made clear that recitation was voluntary and should not be coerced by school staff failed in the House decisively.

I heard about this story on the news this morning. I did not, however, realize that there was a TEXAS PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE. I demand that you reproduce the entire text of this pledge for us so that I may recite it six times a day while facing the Alamo.

Here you go, although this is the 2007 updated version, so it's mildly different from the one we had to hear every day:

Honor the Texas flag;
I pledge allegiance to thee,
Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.

Also facing the Alamo would be a huge faux-pas since per statute:

Sec. 3100.104. RECITING PLEDGE.
If the pledge to the state flag is recited, each person who is present and:
(1) not in uniform should: (A) face the state flag and stand at attention with the person's right hand over the heart; (B) if wearing a head covering that is easy to remove, remove that head covering with the right hand and hold it at the person's left shoulder, with the person's hand over the heart; and (C) recite the pledge; or
(2) in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and make the military salute.

Out of principal I always take my attendance during the texas pledge.

and it's good to see you're back to blogging

....Oh and you two boys enjoy your man-date with BSG

...doubleOH - Jesse, I get to go to the rodeo again! Sit right behind the chutes. YEEHAW!

Its not a man-date if Suzi is there too. I guess if we force her to watch its man-cuckolding.

Ooooh. that sounds hot!

take pictures ;-)

"...if wearing a head covering that is easy to remove..."

This sounds alot more progressive than i give Texas credit for.

Random fact: There's no basement at the Alamo.
